NewFree: The Clear Books Check. Are your books ready for HMRC?

The Clear Books Check

Are your books ready for HMRC? Seven questions, two minutes.

Answer honestly. “Not sure” is a fine answer, it tells us where to look. Plain English, no jargon, and no question too silly to ask. This is a quick guide, not tax advice.

1 Is your bank feed connected, and are the last 3 months matched up?
2 Could you say, within about £500, how much tax you owe right now?
3 Could you find any receipt or invoice from the last year in under a minute?
4 Could you hand your books to HMRC or a lender today without a scramble?
5 Do you know whether Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to you, and from when?

It is based on gross income from self-employment and property, before expenses. Over £50,000: from 6 April 2026. Over £30,000: from 6 April 2027. Over £20,000: from 6 April 2028.

6 Do you know how close you are to the £90,000 VAT registration threshold, over any 12 months?
7 In the last 3 years, did you file anything late (VAT, Self Assessment or CIS)?

Nothing is sent anywhere. Your score stays on this page.
